Socrates Park Folly, Long Island City

This competition entry explored the theme of the architectural folly, commonly defined as a fanciful structure whose purpose is non-utilitarian. The site for the folly looks out onto Roosevelt Island and an existing lighthouse. Some research revealed an interesting history on the lighthouse and this steel structure is a response and dialog with the lighthouse across the water, while providing a viewing tower for the Socrates Park site.
